Area Supervisor (COI) 3rd Shift #88-18


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Advises employees on care and preservation of items received, stored, and shipped; methods and use of equipment in handling, storing, maintaining, and shipping stock; and related problems.

  • Schedules work for inbound and outbound activities as well as special and periodic inventories.

  • Review orders to determine the days' activities and check for priority items.

  • Walks through the facility to verify status and visually checks for facility and/or equipment damage at the beginning and end of work day.

  • Before the start of work, supervisor will review with warehouse personnel the previous day's results (safety, quality, productivity) give direction regarding the current day goals and priorities

  • Communicates changes to warehouse staff regarding the days' activities and priority items.

  • Performs warehouseperson duties when necessary to achieve shift goals.

  • Uses Radio Frequency and standard computer terminals to check status and completeness of orders, quality of work, and monitor/track productivity.

  • Completes end of day reports as directed by the logistics manager.

  • Leads warehouse staff in ensuring product is correctly pulled and checked and shipping documents are properly prepared.

  • Observes coworkers to monitor compliance with established policies, procedures, and time commitments.

  • May issue corrective actions relative to established processes or procedures.

  • Provides timely feedback regarding observations of policy and/or procedure violations.

  • Provides input regarding observations of employee productivity.

  • Traces history of items to determine reasons for discrepancies between inventory and stock control records and recommends remedial actions to resolve discrepancies.

  • Determines work procedures and expedites workflow.

  • Examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.

  • Issues written and oral instructions.

  • Implements and coordinates continuous improvement program as directed by Shift Manager.

  • Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of warehouse personnel.

  • Maintains harmony among workers and works with Shift Manager to resolve employee grievances.

  • Prepares composite reports from individual reports of warehouse personnel.

  • Adjusts errors and implements corrective actions for complaints.

  • Assists the Shift Manager in developing and implementing new or improved procedures.

  • Trains warehouse personnel in performing technical and non-technical requirements of job per established guidelines as directed by the Shift Manager.

  • Provides on the job training for new and existing warehouse personnel

  • Responsible for compliance with Safety rules, practices and procedure and providing Safety training to warehouse personnel.

  • Provides accurate, meaningful and timely reviews of all direct reports.

  • Provides accurate and complete accident / incident reports when required.

  • Provides daily input including associate accountability for COI housekeeping program.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the work and review of 7 to 12 warehouse personnel. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA + 2 years work experience in warehousing with at least 1 year supervision or equivalent through five years work experience in warehousing.
Warehouse Equipment Familiarity
Must have experience with all types of material handling equipment to include but not limited to man-up order pickers, fully extendable reach trucks, 2- & 3 wheel forklifts, electric pallet jacks (walkie-riders), semi-automated pallet wrapping machines, dock levelers and manual dock doors. Desire experience with RF terminals, hand-held RF units and tethered IR scanners. Must have familiarity with label printers, desktop terminals and assorted manual warehouse supplies (e.g. tape guns, cutting tools, banding machines).
LANGUAGE SKILLS AND MATHEMATICAL SKILL

  • Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in ENGLISH.

  • Ability to count in all units of measure using whole numbers.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to interpret bar graphs.


REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions. Ability to deal with complex situations such as scheduling work with several variables.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITY

  • Ability to work with computer applications (including excel and word) in a warehouse environment.

  • AS 400 knowledge preferred.

  • Ability to take direction from multiple sources and prioritize effectively.

  • Ability to communicate and motivate direct reports.

  • Ability to hold direct reports accountable for following all COI procedures.

  • Ability to complete assigned projects on time.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with Customer Service on phone as well as e-mail.

  • Ability to act as a backup to cover in the Managers absence.

  • This position may require some work to be completed as high as 30 feet above ground level, in an open space, harnessed on a machine.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Current class \u0022C\u0022 driver's license and no more than 1 moving violation on record.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Occasionally, due to weather, the employee may be required to work in moderate to extreme heat or cold conditions.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
